Departure Lounge Festival - Package Holiday / Mon 26th June to Saturday 1st July 2017
The HopBarn is extremely excited to be able to host a fantastic opportunity for theatre makers.
For the second year running, Derby Theatre's In Good Company has awarded The HopBarn a unique opportunity to host a theatre company as part of the Departure Lounge Festival's Package Holiday 2017.
In Good Company is Derby Theatre's associate artist programme and works with a consortium of arts venues across the East Midlands to support emerging theatre companies with essential resources and expertise.
In 2016, LaPelle's Factory were successful in their application to the Departure Lounge Festival and undertook a week of residency at The HopBarn to devise a new work. For them the opportunity to reside at The HopBarn enabled them to work faster with more intensity, creating work that was featured as part of the Departure Lounge Festival 2016.

Guidance and support on funding applications
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
Essentials
Work made by artists of colour (Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic - BAME) in recognition of the fact that these artists are currently underrepresented in contemporary theatre and Derby Theatre’s ambition to address this imbalance.
Contemporary performance
Work that fits a studio space
Work that is 50mins - 1 hour long
Work already in the process of development that will be finished by Friday 21 July
NB: we are also open to receiving split applications. This is where you would like to present a finished show at the festival but develop a different show at The HopBarn.
The demands of the festival mean that the show will have three hours to get-in & tech prior to performance, so please make sure this is achievable.
Desired
Applicants who live or work within the East Midlands
Work that will be part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2017. (Departure Lounge Festival is traditionally a platform for Edinburgh previews. Therefore we would like this opportunity to relieve some of the financial pressure of taking a show to Edinburgh by offering free rehearsal space and relieve some of creative pressure by offering a preview in a supportive and friendly environment)
NB: This is an opportunity designed to support work that is already in development. It is not a commission, and does not have any financial support attached to it, aside from the performance fee.
The HopBarn
The HopBarn provides a unique venue for music and the performing arts. Situated on a working farm in rural Nottinghamshire, The HopBarn is a redevelopment of a group of 18th Century agricultural buildings into a purpose developed centre for music, theatre and dance. Working with regional partners, companies and artists, The HopBarn seeks to create opportunities in supporting and nurturing new and emerging artistic practice.

In Good Company and Departure Lounge Festival
Born out of consultation with our community of artists, In Good Company is the professional development programme for artists making work in the East Midlands, led by Creative Producer Ruby Glaskin. It launched in July 2014 and is now a multi-venue partnership delivered by Derby Theatre, Attenborough Arts Centre, Mansfield venues, Lincolsnhire One Venues and Burton Brewhouse.
Departure Lounge is In Good Company’s flagship festival: uplifting audiences and helping artists take flight. This year we are celebrating the festival's 5th birthday and it will take place at Derby Theatre between Thursday 20 – Sunday 23 July. Departure Lounge sees the theatre transformed into a buzzing festival site. The festival is a platform for contemporary performance, Edinburgh previews and work that experiments with form. Artists who have previously performed at the festival include: Two Destination Language, Theatre Re, Sleeping Trees, Milk Presents, Maison Foo, TOOT, Barrel Organ, Tiata Fahodzi, Richard Dedomenici, Greg Wohead, Rachael Young and many more.
