Due to the on-going concerns surrounding the coronavirus and taking into consideration the health and well-being of our audience members and key stakeholders, we have decided that it is important to postpone all public activity at The HopBarn until the autumn period when we hope that the threat of the virus will have subsided

For those who have bought tickets to any of our forthcoming programmed music events, you will of course be refunded the full cost of the ticket.

On behalf of The HopBarn, we value the support and patronage of everyone who has attended or was about to attend an event at this rural arts venue and recognise that without such dedicated support, we could not operate as we have been doing.

For the musicians who have recently played or were about to play, this is a devastating time for them as future gigs and music tours have been cancelled, leaving them suddenly without an expected yearly income. The impact will be widespread although we hope that this is just temporary and that we can host the music events that have already been programmed for the autumn season.

Thank you once again for your understanding in this situation and we look forward to welcoming you back at The HopBarn once this unsettled period has passed.

With Best Wishes on behalf of The HopBarn

For all events, tickets can be purchased online via Eventbrite although a booking fee will be added by Eventbrite.

Went to the gig @ Birmingham Kitchen Garden Café last night and really enjoyed the set. Great musicianship and arrangements from the band and Julie’s superb vocal interpretations of Sandy Denny’s songbook really do justice to what is outstanding material. A couple of original songs of their own were also performed and fitted into the set very well indeed. Thanks for an evening of great live music and placing an outstanding musical legacy right where it should be, alive and well and being performed for people to enjoy. A rare opportunity not to be missed!”

Sarah McQuaid

22 May 2020

£12 (advanced) £14 (on the door)

With the release of her new album, If We Dig Any Deeper It Could Get Dangerous (2018) The HopBarn is delighted to host singer/songwriter Sarah McQuaid. Sarah who was born in Madrid, raised in Chicago and who is now based in Cornwall, has expanded her battery of instruments to include piano, electric guitar and drums, drawing international critical acclaim.

Inspired by her folksinging mother and her musician cousin Gamble Rogers, whom she first met at her grandmothers house in Indiana, Sarah toured from the age of 12 with the Chicago Childrens Choir. She then lived and worked in Ireland as a music journalist and magazine editor before venturing on her own solo music career and moving to Cornwall.

Having recently been awarded a Lifetime Acheivement Award by the Arts International Guitar Festival in recoginition for her use of the DADGAD tuning and her authorship of the Irish DADGAD Guitar Book, Sarah is an artist to follow. Guitar legend, Michael Chapman who collaborated with Sarah on her latest album, noted that Sarah has the precision and sophistication of writing and playing that simply blows him away. Her voice too has been likened to malt whiskey and melted chocolate.

Sarah is clearly an artist to follow and The HopBarn is really excited to be able to bring such a highly praised musican to this rural part of England.

With its classy songwriting, exemplary musicianship and high

production values, this is a collection to savour - fRoots, UK

Combining exquisite folk with influences as diverse as blues, Indian classical, and beatboxing, the BBC Folk Award winners are taking their show to some equally special places.

The pair take their strong roots sound, mixing original song-writing with stomping beatbox harmonica, soaring fiddle and vocal harmonies, running wilder with each repeat play.

A busy collaborative period has included work as part of the Gigspanner Big Band (featuring members of Bellowhead and Steeleye Span); and performing at BBC Radio Two’s Festival In A Day to a Hyde Park crowd of 50,000 – supporting Kylie Minogue!

They are now leaving the beaten track firmly behind them, and would love you to join them for this celebration of hidden gems, extraordinary venues, and uncommon concerts.

What's this item about? What makes it interesting? Write a catchy description to grab your audience's attention...

Greg Russell and Ciaran Algar joined forces in 2011. Combining Russell’s powerful vocals and driving guitar style with Algar’s All-Ireland winning fiddle playing, the duo have become one of the most sought after acts on the British folk scene.

In 2013 the pair won the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award before going on to win the Horizon Award for best breakthrough act from the same source in 2014. In 2015, they were nominated in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Award Best Duo category.

Having toured extensively in the UK for five years, as well as in Denmark, Germany and The Netherlands, Greg Russell and Ciaran Algar have released 3 studio albums.

“One of the pleasures of live music of course, is witnessing the acts interactions with one another and relationships they build with the audience. Greg and Ciaran are very funny and in a few short years this humour seems to have shifted from jokes and puns to an almost 'Reeves and Mortimer' type surrealism. Greg has a dry, acerbic sense of humour whereas Ciaran is more anarchic and uncontrolled. An added twist is that at times it is difficult to tell whether they are on the verge of 'falling out' on stage as Greg gives his adult 'enough is enough' look, which just seems to incite Ciaran to further errant behaviour.” Paul Jackson for Fatea
