Southwell Music Festival / 25 - 29.08.2016
The HopBarn is delighted to be able to continue its relationship with Southwell Music Festival for the third festival which will take place from 25th to 28th August 2016.
Marcus Farnsworth, Founder and Artistic Director of Southwell Music Festival initiated the festival to celebrate the local town and its rich heritage of classical and choral music. Having been Head Chorister at Southwell Minster, Marcus who is now an internationally renowned Baritone, has been able to bring together a wealth of professional music expertise in order to provide over 28 musical events (many of which are free) over the 4 day event. The festival prides itself on bringing together many young musicians who ensure that the ambition of the festival programme is fully realized. Local musicians and performers also take part embracing the wealth of musical diversity the town and surrounding locality has to offer.
The HopBarn will host some of the guest musicians who will be performing at this years festival as well as providing rehearsal space and a venue for the host event on Monday 22nd August.

For this years festival the programme includes:
Elgar's The Dream of Gerontius / Saturday 27th August at 4pm
In this tale, Elgar provides an epic musical setting for the journey of a pious man's soul from his deathbed to his judgement before God.
Peter and the Wolf / Saturday 27th August at 11am (Mask Making from 10.30am)
This Family Concert will be very informal for families and children up to and including junior school age
Henry Purcell - The Eternal Inspiration / Sunday 28th August at 7.30pm
The 17th Century English Composer's musical inspiration begins with his remarkable Fantasia upon one note and ends with Benjamin Britten's second string quartet written in homage to Henry Purcell.
The festival will also profile the 2015 winner of Nottingham Young Musician of the Year on Sunday 27th August at 1pm in The State Chamber. Matt Glendening is the principal Clarinetist of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and achieved the title at last November's final. Matt will also be performing at The HopBarn on Saturday 10th September 2016 as part of The Late Summer Recital and alongside Stephanie Childress and Kumi Matsuo.

The festival programme offers an array of concerts and performances as well as providing an opportunity for local residents to Come and Sing on Monday 29th August. In this event, the festival organisers are hoping that 250 voices from the local town will come under the musical direction of Marcus Farnsworth to perform.
The musical heritage of Southwell has a long and rich history, and Southwell Music Festival has been able to programme a range of events that truly reflects the quality and diversity of music within the town.
