The HopBarn is delighted to have been offered a unique opportunity with Derby Theatre to provide local theatre companies based in the East Midlands, much needed time and space to develop and showcase their work.
A call out has been sent out by Derby Theatre providing full details of the package. The HopBarn will host the chosen theatre company for a period of two weeks whilst they prepare their work for te Departure Lounge Festival which will take place in July 2016. We are offering an artistic retreat in the Nottinghamshire countryside alongside an opportunity to perform your work at Derby Theatre’s flagship contemporary performance festival ‘Departure Lounge’
2 weeks of rehearsal space and on-site accommodation at The HopBarn
(Monday 20th June to Saturday 2nd July)
Programmed performance (opening performance) at Departure Lounge Festival
(Thursday 21st July 7pm)
Performance fee of £400

What we are looking for:
Work that fits a studio space of…and a capacity of 80
Work that is an hour long
Work already in the process of development and ready to premiere/preview by 21st July
Applicants who live or work within the East Midlands
Work that will be part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2016. (Departure Lounge Festival is traditionally a platform for Edinburgh previews. Therefore we would like this opportunity to relieve some of the financial pressure of taking a show to Edinburgh by offering free rehearsal space and relieve some of creative pressure by offering a preview in a supportive and friendly environment)
NB: This is an opportunity designed to support work that is already in development. It is not a commission, and does not have any financial support attached to it, aside from the performance fee.
Information on The HopBarn
The HopBarn provides a unique venue for music and the performing arts. Situated on a working farm in rural Nottinghamshire, The HopBarn is a redevelopment of a group of 18th Century agricultural buildings into a purpose developed centre for music, theatre and dance. Working with regional partners, companies and artists, The HopBarn seeks to create opportunities in supporting and nurturing new and emerging artistic practice.
Information on In Good Company and Departure lounge Festival
Born out of consultation with our community of artists, In Good Company is the professional development programme for artists making work in the East Midlands, led by Creative Producer Ruby Glaskin. It launched in July 2014 and is currently delivered by Derby Theatre, Create Theatre in Mansfield and Attenborough Arts Centre in Leicester.
DEparture Lounge is In Good Company’s flagship festival: uplifting audiences and helping artists take flight. It takes place at Derby Theatre between the 21st – 24th July and sees the theatre transformed into a buzzing festival sight. The festival is a platform for contemporary performance, Edinburgh previews and work that experiments with form. Artists who have previously performed at the festival include: Two Destination Language, Theatre Re, Sleeping Trees, Milk Presents, Maison Foo, TOOT, Barrel Organ, Tiata Fahodzi, Richard Dedomenici and many more.
